What do Larry Agran and Lynn Schott have in common? Among other things, neither will stop playing politics with the Orange County Veterans Cemetery.
The Irvine City Council voted on June 6 to approve the land-swap re-locating the Veterans Cemetery to a 125-acre site easily accessible from the 5 Freeway. It has more and more certain funding sources, the support of veterans groups that have been pressing for an OC Veterans Cemetery, and can be built more quickly. The vote was hailed by the OC Register as a “win-win-win.”
The OC Register at the time chided Schott for “using Larry Agran’s playbook” by attacking the land swap as a “giveaway,” and in September stated that “Irvine veterans cemetery politicking” by Schott and other bitter-enders “should end.”
Good advice. Too bad Larry Agran won’t take it.
Agran is organizing and funding a signature drive to qualify a citywide referendum to overturn the city council’s June 6 approval of the land swap, thereby throwing construction of the OC Veterans Cemetery into chaos.
Agran plays politics at the expense of Orange County veterans, who have a cemetery site and just want it built.
Where is Lynn Schott? Will she take the sound advice of the OC Register and others to put the politicking behind, respect the will of the council and move forward with the OC Veterans Cemetery?
Or will she go along with Larry Agran’s latest scheme to resuscitate his political relevancy?
